Newsletters 2023-2024

Dear First-Grade Families,

Here's a brief overview of what we did  May 6-10.

Math: We started our new unit focused on graphs. We began by exploring simple graphs and aimed to achieve several key objectives:

-Collect, organize, and represent data using picture graphs.
-Interpret data presented in picture graphs.
-Understand data represented through symbols in graphs.

Phonics: We continued to develop our skills in decoding multi-syllable words. Additionally, we had a special center dedicated to learning about homophones and reviewing parts of speech. The children are making great strides in their phonics skills!

Writing: The students worked on sequencing their story ideas, setting scenes that include a problem and a solution, and understanding the importance of a satisfying ending. They practiced crafting compelling conclusions by reading sentences and brainstorming potential endings.

Science/Social Studies: Our field trip to Cedar Run was a highlight of the week! The students discovered endangered plants and animals in New Jersey and learned about the effects of human behavior on these species. They also explored how inherited traits and learned behaviors impact animal survival in the wild. Seeing them so engaged and connecting with our previous lessons was inspiring.

Upcoming Event: Please mark your calendars for May 21 at 10:30 AM for our Project-Based Learning (PBL) presentation. The students have diligently researched and created dioramas, and we are excited to showcase their hard work.

Thank you for your ongoing support and engagement. We look forward to another wonderful week of learning and discovery!
