Alumnus Max Voellinger ‘12 recently visited with our middle school students to share insights about his career as an electrical engineer. Currently, he is part of a small startup called FlashPCB, located in Riverton, NJ. The students engaged with Max by asking thoughtful questions about his daily work, the design of circuit boards, their production costs, the purposes of PCBs, and who their clients are, among other topics.
Max was truly impressed by the students' curiosity and enthusiasm. He recounted stories from his own journey, detailing his previous role in another larger company and the ongoing learning he pursues in the engineering field. He emphasized that school primarily teaches you how to learn, while most of your knowledge is gained through hands-on experience and a continual quest for expertise. Max also shared how he enjoys approaching projects using his creativity, alongside his STEM skills, and expressed his sense of pride in contributing to a finished product, especially in such a small company. He explained how each circuit board is meticulously designed to meet specific client needs, whether it's for medical devices, consumer electronics, or industrial machinery. Max also highlighted the innovative work being done at FlashPCB, where they strive to create more efficient and environmentally friendly products, after being asked a pointed question about what his company does with boards that don't meet standards.
Max's visit was not only informative but also a testament to the impact of alumni engagement in fostering a culture of learning and exploration.
