By sharing Dr. King’s message of equality and love, we instill in our students, daily, that they can be genuine leaders and that their small actions can have a significant impact on others.
This year, our older students are focusing on reading and understanding Dr. Martin Luther King's “Letter from a Birmingham Jail,” . On April 16, 1963, just days after being imprisoned in Birmingham, Alabama, for participating in anti-segregation demonstrations, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. wrote this powerful response to his critics on some scrap paper.
This open letter provided a compelling defense of the protest campaign and is now celebrated as one of the most significant texts of the American civil rights movement.
