Welcome to the 2022-2023 school year. I hope you and your families had time to relax and be together. Having time to sit and watch my small garden grow and be visited by praying mantis, hummingbirds, ground hogs, fox, and butterflies to name a few, was an important part of my summer. That and I read a great many books!
We had a wonderful meeting for worship yesterday. Everyone from grades PreK through 8 gathered in the Meeting House. We sang “Love Grows”, practiced quieting ourselves to listen to each other, and greeted each other. One student stood and shared how much they hoped the new students would come to love Westfield as they did.
Today is picture day! Even our youngest two year olds managed smiles for their class picture.
Our theme this year is “We Seek an Earth Restored”. This month’s assemblies and field trips were chosen with our theme in mind. Expect to see it developed in age appropriate ways across the year. The One Book, One Community "We Are Water Protectors", by Carol Lindstrom is part of the inspiration of our first PreK-8th grade “Quaker Friday” tomorrow. In their cross-grade groups, students will consider how we might work to reduce the number of plastic, single use bottles that foul our waterways.
I hope to see many of you at the annual Ice Cream Social next week, hosted by the Parent & Guardian Council. This is the first of our two major social events for the month. The second is the Annual Golf Outing at Riverton Country Club. We have a full September ahead of us including three speaker events and several field trips. Be sure you subscribe to the Westfield Friends School calendar so you know what is happening at your school. You will find the calendar on the school’s website.
Warmly,
Margaret
