The Weekly Roundup with Teacher Margaret - May 6th

Rain or shine, we will have Field Day Friday, May 6th. Coach Shane has been putting students through their paces to be their best selves as runners and obstacle course navigators. Mrs. DeMarco has been providing her wisdom and past experience with Field Day. Mrs. Marrazzo’s son will provide the music to entertain us between events. This year we will also try out a first every Garnet versus Blue relay race. While we will miss having parents and friends cheer the athletes on, we promise to take lots of pictures. May the best team win (this year).

This week we have enjoyed a reciprocating set of thank yous. Last Saturday, Parents and Guardians Council hosted a wonderful picnic breakfast for families. Everyone who came appreciated the effort taken to reimagine this Westfield tradition. Our wonderful Parents and Guardians Council have been showering our teachers with appreciation all week long. First, treat bags, then succulent plants in clever Owl planters. On Friday, they are providing lunch. Meanwhile, in classes, students have been busy with surprises to give their mothers on Mother’s Day. Many of these mothers are responsible for appreciating our teachers. The P&GC book sale is going strong. Kids brought in loose change to support the book sale. The proceeds generated by the book sale will help teachers buy books for their classes.  Their teachers will use the money to buy books for their students to read. And the circle of thanks goes around again.

We have started looking ahead to next year. Thank you for returning the New Jersey state textbook loan forms. We will have new LED lights and improved ventilation throughout the buildings. Our stylish orange mesh fence should be replaced with new fencing to match the black fencing around the PreK and Kindergarten play yard. Just as was the case last spring and summer, as we learn and plan for the upcoming school year, I promise to share with you how we will build on this year and continue to offer a safe, child-centered, learning community for your children and for you.
